    • Why are you involved in TSLA?
TSLA has been a catalyst to my success as a broker, a leader within my organization and our industry. TSLA's membership consisting of my competitors and carrier partners allows me to be a voice in their regulatory or legislative challenges. The health of the Texas Surplus Lines industry is based upon the success of our TSLA members. I enjoy the feeling that I can contribute to something bigger than my individual or company's success.
    • Fun Fact or something members may not know about you:
I was Security Services (Law Enforcement) in the Air Force. I was patrolling base housing one day and decided to hand out candy to the kids with a warning "Don't accept candy from strangers". The irony of this is not missed upon me!

    • Firm Name:
      McGowan, Donnelly & Oberheu, LLC
    • How many years in the industry?
19 years - started working part-time in Admin while in College, and then I started working at the brokerage full time after graduation.
    • Why are you involved in TSLA?
So I can attend the Mid-Year meetings! Just kidding (maybe :). All jokes aside, TSLA is a wonderful organization made-up of industry members who are all working together for the common good of the industry and ultimately the policy holders. I have learned so much from other members, both personally and professionally, and I'm so thankful to call so many a friend. The longer I serve in TSLA, the more I realize and see how much good the association and PAC does for the industry, and it makes me so proud to be part of such a worthy and respected organization.
    • Fun Fact or something members may not know about you:
I'm just a small-town Texas girl from a high school with a graduating class of 48. When I was college, I decided I wanted to get a part-time job because my niece was about to be born, and I wanted some spending money to be able to buy things for her. I happened to find an ad for a part-time Admin / Receptionist at an insurance brokerage, and nineteen years later, I'm still in the insurance industry!

    • Why are you involved in TSLA?
I got involved in TSLA very early in my career because a colleague in my office encouraged me to check out the Texans Under Forty event an Annual Meeting. After that first meeting I began to understand the impact TSLA has on our industry and how important it is to be an advocate for the organization given our niche position in the insurance industry. Becoming an advocate for our industry is what drove me to become involved in TSLA and I am honored to be apart of the Board where I aim to have a lasting impact on the organization and our industry.

After attending the annual meeting that year and hearing what was discussed during the business meeting, I went back and asked my boss if I could attend again the following year. Since then, I've enjoyed participating every year. TSLA allows me to stay current on legislative and regulatory issues faced by those of us in the E&S space, and I feel like it gives all members a seat at the table when key issues are being discussed.
